VuFind Developers Call Minutes: May 28, 2013

Attending: Filipe Bento, Demian Katz, Josiah Knoll, Tod Olson, Ben Wiens

Agenda

1. New/Updated JIRA Tickets

  • VUFIND-425 - There has been some new discussion of schema.org microdata on this ticket; Eoghan will join us on the next call to discuss in more detail.
  • VUFIND-559 - Solr has been upgraded.
  • VUFIND-589 - Jetty has been upgraded.
  • VUFIND-611 - This Windows-specific issue has been addressed with a documentation change.
  • VUFIND-641 - This sharding-related ticket has been closed as a “won't fix” (no action needed).
  • VUFIND-658 - This small sharding bug has been fixed.
  • VUFIND-659 - The change_tracker table is now always updated using UTC times. No upgrade script has been deemed necessary (MARC records are unaffected by the change, and XML records are not in widespread use in combination with change tracking).
  • VUFIND-718 - Some VuFind 1.x code for Summon Best Bets support has been posted here; Demian will port to 2.0 when time permits.
  • VUFIND-749 - VuFind's default indexing configuration now accounts for the RDA 264 field (a replacement for 260 – place of publication/publisher/date).
  • VUFIND-813, VUFIND-814, VUFIND-816, VUFIND-817 - These tickets are related to ongoing search backend development.
  • VUFIND-815 - This ticket tracks the next SolrMarc upgrade.
  • VUFIND-818 - This ticket addresses a favorites tagging bug that was introduced by recent 2.0 refactoring.

2. VuFind 2.0 Update

The code has been updated to use Zend Framework 2.2.0 and Solr 4.2.1.

SolrMarc now uses HTTP indexing by default instead of direct index writing due to locking problems.

Release date for 2.0: June 24, 2013. We will freeze development starting June 10 to allow two weeks of testing (any new development can be done in a 2.1 branch).

VUFIND-796 is the biggest outstanding issue to resolve before the freeze. David implemented a Solr 3 error listener for this, and Demian will work on a Solr 4 listener in order to review/test code. He will also finish any remaining integration work to ensure that the listener actually behaves as expected.

There was some discussion of VUFIND-701 – Tod will look into some of the Dewey code if Demian sends him a pointer to the relevant area.

3. Linked Data

David pointed out Metafacture, a linked data tool from the German National Library which can read in common library formats like MARC and transform them in various ways using a declarative language.

4. VuFind Summit 2013

No major news, but Demian pointed out (since someone asked recently) that Code4lib and VuStuff will follow the VuFind Summit as in the previous year.

5. Other Topics?

No other comments.
