We separate our full text urls from our “supplementary” URLs for such things as tables of content, etc.
Our MARC records use 956 fields for full text urls. These 956s are from a record service called MARCit, and they are all for full-text e-journals. So, regardless of indicators, the presence of a 956 means it is an e-resource. Some records that have a 956 are records for a print journal. A 956 was added to it to provide access to the e-version. So, it is a single record that provides access to both the print version and the e-version. Other records that have a 956 are specifically for the electronic version.
The contents of subfield u in an 856 or 956 field will be a
URL.
A single bib record may have both a “table of contents” or “supplemental”
URL in an 856 and a full-text
URL in an 856.
Note: there may be more than one fulltext URL in a single bib record.
Algorithm:
any 956 field, regardless of indicators
856 field if second indicator of “0”
856 field if second indicator is NOT “0” or “2” AND subfield z and subfield 3 do NOT contain “table of contents”
Note: there may be more than one supplementary URL in a single bib record.
Algorithm:
856 field if second indicator is a 2
856 field if second indicator is NOT “0” or “2” AND subfield z and subfield 3 contains “table of contents”
