      Description

The attached .zip file contains the key components of Villanova's two-column combined Summon / VuFind search. Some notes:

1.) This .zip file was created against a copy of VuFind 1.2 and should work with later releases; if you have an earlier version, some Javascript adjustments may be necessary.

2.) Most of the work is done by a new Resource module, which is mostly copied-and-pasted code from the existing Search and Summon modules. We use this module as VuFind's new default homepage by setting it up as the defaultModule in config.ini.

3.) At Villanova, we use a custom theme based on the VuFind classic theme. Our templates might not work as well in combination with the default or blueprint themes, but hopefully it's enough to give you the general idea. Also, I didn't include all the support files for the video we have on our homepage -- I don't think that's of interest to most people.

4.) We have some additional code scattered throughout our copy of VuFind that sets up the "articles & more" / "books & more" tabs and does some fancy things like translating search type values so if you tab from a "books & more" title search into "articles & more", you still search just for titles. I didn't include all of this code because it's dispersed throughout our system, and most of it works by brute force... but if anyone has questions about it, I can post more details in the comments here -- just ask!

This is functional rather than well-designed code, so I apologize for the rough edges (this is the reason it's not available as part of the trunk). I'm working on designing the architecture of VuFind 2.0 so that this same effect can be achieved with much less redundancy.
