Description |
Crossref offers an API (available in both free and paid versions) to search metadata in its database. See: https://github.com/CrossRef/rest-api-doc This appears to meet the basic requirements necessary to build a VuFind search backend and could likely be supported if demand justifies the work (or a volunteer is willing to work on the project). |

A related note: Crossref metadata can be downloaded in its entirety via [academictorrents.com|http://academictorrents.com] (see [https://www.crossref.org/blog/new-public-data-file-120-million-metadata-records/|https://www.crossref.org/blog/new-public-data-file-120-million-metadata-records/|smart-link] for an announcement). It may be possible to build a local index of this data (assuming you have a Solr setup capable of handling 120 million records). That may be a complement/alternative to building a backend. If this is of interest, feel free to open a separate JIRA ticket to track it. |
