1. Review of Action Items from Previous Meeting

2. Goal Review

This year's goals:

3. Documentation

Maintenance Plan

Decisions to make:

(See last month's minutes for prior discussion of these points).

Demian will draft a plan based on these points and share it with the group.

Page Updates

Demian will next work on updating Koha documentation based on Mohan's input.

Demian and Mohan should update the DOAJ page and create a NepJol page based on recent experiments.

Work is still pending on the PubMed Central “open data sources” page. Mohan also plans to contribute documentation related to integrating SubjectsPlus (which recently had example XSLT import configs added to the project) and Moodle (which is still being researched).

Artificial Intelligence

Leila summarized her initial investigations with AI. ChatGPT 3.5 may be suitable for cleaning up documentation. Running a ChatBot would have underlying costs to run a server to train the bot, etc.

PMC Article

Craig and André have concluded their literature review and determined that an article about the formation of the PMC would usefully fill a gap in the literature about establishing open source governance in the library space. They both agree that publishing in an open access journal is strongly preferable. Their first choice is Code4lib Journal, with Journal of Librarianship and Information Science and Journal of Librarianship and Scholarly Communication as possible alternatives. They will begin the drafting process soon.

4. Treasurer Status

Craig has agreed to serve as treasurer, and he has gone through orientation with the OLF. The treasurer@vufind.org email address now forwards to him.

5. Fundraising

Demian has received an inquiry from another possible RSP.

Chris found the github-stats project, which might be useful to communicate value/effort using GitHub data. He is willing to integrate this with the website if there is interest.

We started investigating GitHub statistics in response to Chris' mention of a project that used GitHub stats as part of their fundraising strategy; however, he was unable to relocate this project to use it as an example, and his confidence in the value of this method is diminished.

6. WOLFcon 2024

The WOLFcon call for proposals only runs until the end of this month but may be extended. In general, PMC representation at the conference will be minimal; Demian will propose some sessions aimed at introducing newcomers and highlighting crossover with other OLF projects.

It was decided that the official Summit will coincide with the German event at University of Leipzig. André's team and Demian will work on drafting a call for papers over the next few weeks. This CFP may go out after the WOLFcon call closes to avoid the appearance of competition, since these events should be complementary. In the unlikely situation that WOLFcon receives an excess of papers, submitters can be directed to the second event.

7. Wiki Account Management

Demian checked the user file; it is 2.1MB this month, which is not much growth since last month. We should continue watching periodically to be sure it does not have another burst of expansion. And obviously this is still too big – there are many junk accounts that should be identified and removed, if we can find a way to do so.

8. Possible Future Actions

Some other possible items for the future:

Other Items

Anne mentioned that a recent accessibility review highlighted the need for better landmarks, especially in the facet sidebar. André has received similar feedback. They will discuss further and may open a pull request if a common solution can be found. Chris will also investigate best practices in this area. This also led to general discussion about the project's accessibility strategy (e.g. use native semantic HTML as much as possible, augment with ARIA on an as-needed basis).
