The September, 2020 Newsletter was discussed.

Pull request #1667 has been merged. All planned outstanding work is now complete; we'll focus on developing the new beta theme next. This work can address comments from the Summit about a “dark” theme and possible Bootstrap 4 inclusion. (Also noteworthy: Bootstrap 5 is coming soon, and it drops dependency on jQuery).

Mario also mentioned that one of the instances he works on integrates an on-screen keyboard library (for extended characters, etc.); he is willing to share code/notes as needed.

Demian will open a JIRA ticket where we can discuss configuration options for controlling the loading order of Javascript files. This should include examples of current Javascript configuration parameters.

Chris suggested it may also be useful to add a mechanism for adding scripts at the bottom of the page instead of in the header.

The GitHub master branch has been fully replaced by dev in all of VuFind's repositories. All outstanding work in this area should now be complete, but please let us know if any new concerns are raised.

As noted in the September, 2020 Newsletter, the Virtual VuFind Summit 2020 was well-attended and featured a lot of interesting content. Slides have already been posted and video is forthcoming. Chris and Demian will meet soon to review notes and outcomes and set up JIRA tickets, etc., for future discussion/prioritization.

As discussed at the Summit, formalizing VuFind's community for the purpose of sustainability is a priority for the coming year, and a requirement for effectively joining the Open Library Foundation.

Four people have volunteered so far to assist with this process; it would be great to have more participants to make sure the whole community is well-represented. Demian and Chris will follow up soon, once they've had a little more time to digest the outcomes of the Summit.

Mario mentioned that his team wants to reach out to Hamburg and Leipzig about common needs; they are interested in following these developments and providing feedback, though available time is limited.

A video discussing how to use VuFind's code generators to create new controllers and actions was recorded. It will be edited and posted as soon as practical.
