VuFind Developers Call Minutes: September 30, 2014

Attending: Filipe Bento, Chris Hallberg, Sean Purcell

Agenda

1. Development Updates

JIRA Tickets

  • VUFIND-1011 - This bug (a bad interaction between ChoiceAuth and password change functionality) has been resolved. The authentication code has been significantly refactored in the process.
  • VUFIND-1030 - This ticket contains some discussion of ILS error handling; as it turns out, no new functionality was needed beyond the existing NoILS driver.
  • VUFIND-1031 - This ticket proposes a possible improvement to AT&T text messaging; if anyone could test/confirm and comment, that would be appreciated.
  • VUFIND-1032 - This ticket fixes title-level hold functionality in the Symphony driver.

Pull Requests

  • #207 - merged - This PR changes the bulk of authentication refactoring related to VUFIND-1011.
  • #208 - merged - a minor Voyager ILS driver fix.
  • #209 - in progress - This contains Demian's initial experiments with using ZfcRbac for authorization support.

2. Development Planning

Consortialize

Demian added some comments to this pull request following the previous call.

Call Number Normalization

No developments this week.

Should we eliminate AbstractPluginFactory implementations?

Demian decided against removing these factories after further code review, as they help lower the barrier to entry for VuFind coding even though they are rarely used. They also add some flexibility to configuration that, while rarely used, might be useful in the future.

Should we split out stand-alone libraries?

Demian has created a project for the VuFindCode library here. The main VuFind code has not yet been reconfigured to use this in place of the built-in \VuFind\Code\ISBN class, but Demian will probably make that change if there are no objections.

Release date for 2.3.1?

Discussion deferred for a larger group.

3. 2014 VuFind Summit

Registration is now open and a preliminary schedule has been posted. Talk proposals are still welcome if anyone has something they'd like to share. More information can be found at the conference wiki page.

4. Other Topics?

None this week.
