PMC Meeting: January 16, 2024

Attending: Leila Gonzales, Chris Hallberg, Demian Katz, André Lahmann, Ere Maijala, Josef Moravec, Peter Murray, Mohan Raj Pradhan

Apologies: Anne Christensen, Craig Murdoch

1. Review of Action Items from Previous Meeting

  • Demian/Mohan: make further progress on documentation updates. ONGOING
  • Mohan: Share example eBook with PMC when ready (for discussion of “supports the project” logo/wording). ONGOING
  • Chris: Demonstrate using GitHub stats to describe the work in a release for 9.1. ONGOING
  • Chris: Review accessibility of current vufind.org theme. ONGOING
  • ALL: Review/think about “Possible Future Actions” list (and your personal capacity to help) so we can set realistic/achievable/useful 2024 goals at the next meeting. DONE

2. Goal Development

Obvious goals to carry forward from last year:

  • Release versions 10.0 and 10.1
  • Hold a VuFind® Summit in Fall, 2024 linked with WOLFcon in some way

By email, Craig expressed an interest in contributing to future stages of the marketing project. He also offered to assist in writing an article about the PMC, etc., if others wish to collaborate. He also mentioned some interest in “It Takes a Village,” but highlighted the need to narrow the scope of which part(s) we use.

The “future action items” list was reviewed to select additional items. We agreed to add these goals as well:

  • Develop a documentation maintenance plan - André / Demian
  • Investigate possible uses of AI for documentation, support, code reviews, etc. - Leila / André
  • Perform literature review in Code4lib Journal/other sources regarding PMC/sustainability; draft and contribute an article if there is a sufficient need/gap. - André / Craig
  • Marketing improvements (review vufind.org accessibility, improve content as needed) - Chris / Craig / Demian

Investigating a VPAT and working on more It Takes a Village exercises are also possible activities, but no one volunteered to lead those efforts, so we decided not to formally set them as goals. Nothing prevents us from picking them up later in the year if we get ahead on completing the other goals.

3. Documentation

Demian will next work on updating Koha documentation based on Mohan's input.

Work is still pending on MeSH, DoAJ, PubMed Central and NepJol “open data sources” pages. Mohan also plans to contribute documentation related to integrating SubjectsPlus (which recently had example XSLT import configs added to the project) and Moodle (which is still being researched).

4. Fundraising

Chris plans to have GitHub stats available for discussion by next meeting.

5. EU Cyber Resilience Act

No news since last time.

6. WOLFcon 2024

The date and location of WOLFcon 2024 have been announced: September 24-26 at the University of London. There are also plans to hold a VuFind® event at University of Leipzig close to the WOLFcon dates. We should decide which of these is the most appropriate venue for the full online VuFind® Summit, and whether we want to set any formal practices for the Summit going forward. We will discuss further at the next meeting when we have more details available.
